Stone paper production line

خط تولید کاغذ سنگی

Stone paper is made from ground calcium carbonate (calcite) and polymers such as polyethylene, as an alternative to cellulose paper: water-resistant, tear-resistant, and made without wood or process water. We supply, install and commission stone paper lines together with laboratory equipment and the formulation know-how.

What we deliver

  • Line design and machinery supply, built under our engineers' supervision
  • Complete laboratory equipment for quality control
  • Raw-material formulation matched to the end use
  • Installation, commissioning, training and know-how transfer

Formulation by end use

The core know-how in stone paper is adjusting the raw-material formulation and granulation to the line and the paper stretch. Our experience of commissioning stone paper lines has settled on these target parameters:

End use Output density Thickness
Packaging 0.9 to 1.1 per order
Notebooks, books, stationery and envelopes 1.1 to 1.2 90 to 110 µm
Heavy packaging, shopping bags and gift boxes 1.1 to 1.3 200 to 350 µm

These values depend on the order, its quantity, line speed, available raw materials and the capacity and quality proof required, and are finalised at the design stage.

Types of stone paper

  • Thick stone paper for offset and digital printing and packaging
  • Water-resistant, high-durability stone paper for labels, electronic tags and food packaging
  • Electrically conductive stone paper for electronic tags and products
  • Light-transmitting stone paper for backlit clocks, posters and advertising boards
  • Fibrous stone paper for wallpaper, tissue and industrial papers

The process

Calcium carbonate powder is compounded with polymer and granulated, then turned into paper by extrusion, calendering or coating. Compared with cellulose paper, the process is simpler and cheaper and needs neither wood nor process water.
