About the product

Urea is the world’s most widely used nitrogen fertilizer: a white crystalline solid with 46% nitrogen, made from ammonia and carbon dioxide. Its two main forms are prilled (smaller beads from a prilling tower) and granular (larger, harder granules suited to mechanical spreading and blending with other fertilizers). Technical urea, with lower biuret, is supplied for non-agricultural uses.

Uses and consuming industries

  • Agriculture: direct application, urea–ammonium nitrate (UAN) solutions and NPK blends
  • Industry: urea-formaldehyde and melamine resins for wood panels and adhesives, melamine production
  • Emissions control: 32.5% urea solution (AdBlue / DEF) for diesel NOx reduction, and urea injection in SCR/SNCR systems of power plants and cement works
  • Animal feed as a non-protein nitrogen source (feed grade)
